Caring for Infants and Children with Gentle, Effective Bodywork
Working with babies and children is one of the most meaningful parts of my practice. Pediatric CranioSacral Therapy is at the heart of this work, and it’s foundational to supporting children’s health in a gentle, nurturing way.
For many years, children’s treatment has often taken a back seat to adults’. Thankfully, that’s changing, and practitioners recognize how essential this early care is—and how it can shape a child’s entire life.
Why focus on children?
I love how one osteopath put it: “When we look at a child, we never know who or what that child can be. And when we look at an adult, we never know who or what that individual could have been.”
The journey of birth and early childhood is full of challenges. Even births that seem simple can create lasting impacts on a child’s development and the family’s well-being. Pediatric CranioSacral Therapy uses gentle, effective techniques to help balance the nervous system, normalize the body’s structure, and support healing from birth-related or early life traumas.
Dr. William Sutherland, the founder of Cranial Osteopathy, famously said, “As the twig is bent, so grows the tree.” Small injuries or stresses early on can shape a person’s whole life. That’s why early intervention matters so much. Working with children early can prevent or resolve many challenges, ranging from physical and developmental to sensory and behavioral.
I often get asked if every child needs this work. While not every child may require treatment, every child deserves an evaluation. Often, that evaluation naturally becomes the start of healing. Pediatric CranioSacral Therapy is not just about addressing problems—it’s about enhancing each child’s potential and quality of life.
This work is always child-centered. Building trust and safety is the first step because many children arrive feeling vulnerable, sometimes due to previous medical experiences. My goal is to connect with each child in a way that feels safe and comforting, so they can fully receive the benefits of treatment. Pediatric CranioSacral Therapy brings out the best in both the child and the therapist.
Because children can’t always tell us how they feel, I pay close attention to their cues to ensure my touch is always gentle, supportive, and never overwhelming. Babies and children give us so many signals—when they’re comfortable, when they’re ready for more, or when they need a pause. It’s an ongoing conversation.
I also work closely with families—this is truly a team effort. Balancing the needs and feelings of both child and family is an art, like a dance that flows moment to moment. It’s about guiding healing while allowing space for what needs to emerge naturally.
I hope that every child and family I work with finds light, ease, and greater freedom through this process.
Children come for treatment for many reasons, including:
Birth trauma or difficult births
Developmental delays or sensory processing challenges
Behavioral and attention concerns like ADHD
Feeding or sucking difficulties
Chronic pain, headaches, or physical trauma
Sleep and digestive issues
Orthopedic concerns like scoliosis or torticollis
And many more
A special focus of my work is supporting the child’s nervous system, helping them move through chronic stress, hyperactivity, or withdrawal. Balancing the autonomic nervous system can open doors to calmer, more engaged states, improving life in profound ways.
